LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda L. Solis, Supervisor to the First District, released the following statement today after a panel of independent vaccine advisers unanimously voted that the Food and Drug Administration issue an Emergency Use Authorization for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this afternoon.

“This is fantastic news that will have a direct and lifesaving impact on so many residents in Los Angeles County. Not only did this vaccine completely prevent deaths in its trials, it also was highly effective in preventing severe COVID cases and hospitalizations. On top of that, this is a single-dose option which has far less rigorous storage requirements, which will open up new opportunities for provider partnerships and increase access to these vaccines.

This vaccine will add to the much-needed supplies our County is receiving, and I’m glad to hear our State will be receiving over 380,000 doses as soon as next week. Our County’s vast network of large and small partners stand ready to administer additional vaccines as we receive them, and I want to stress to you the importance of signing up for a vaccine as soon as you’re eligible. Remember – the best vaccine for you is the one offered to you as soon as it’s available, and I’m glad there are soon to be three safe and effective vaccines for residents across the County.”
