LOS ANGELES – Chair Hilda L. Solis released the following statement after the Board of Supervisors approved her motion to renew our commitment to DREAMers:
“Today’s unanimous decision by the Board demonstrates our continued commitment to supporting DREAMers everywhere.
DREAMers represent an essential part of our communities contributing vastly to the social, economic and cultural fabric of Los Angeles County. Beyond this, DREAMers have demonstrated time and time again, as we saw throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, their relentless commitment to serve others, which is why it is time we step up for them once more.
This recent ruling by a Texas judge is already causing so much anxiety and disruption in the lives of our DREAMers who have made tremendous contributions in our society and deserve a pathway to citizenship. Los Angeles County will continue to advocate for the rights of DREAMers and immigrants.”
The passage of this motion directs County Counsel to file and/or join in, as a party or amicus curiae, litigation aimed at protecting the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, including the case captioned State of Texas, et al. v. United States of America, et al. Case No. 1:18-CV-00068, and any subsequent appeals or litigation deemed appropriate by County Counsel.
