LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda L. Solis released the following statement after the State announced it would be adhering to masking guidelines through June 15th:
“Today’s announcement from the State that California will be adhering to the CDC’s updated recommendations for vaccinated individuals on June 15 gives us the time needed to ensure these guidelines are implemented safely. It is important to note that the CDC announcement last week was not meant to eliminate current safety modifications at local and state levels.
And although our vaccine efforts continue to progress, less than half of residents age 16 and above are fully vaccinated. These numbers are even lower in our Latinx and Black communities, which have been hit hardest by the pandemic. These four additional weeks will give residents who have either had difficulty accessing the vaccine or held off on getting vaccinated the time they need to make an appointment and get their shots. Additionally, it will allow those who were vaccinated in late April and early May the time needed to get both doses and get the protections from being fully vaccinated.
But make no mistake – the CDC’s recommendation is the clearest signal we have that vaccinations are key to finally putting this pandemic behind us. Even now, fully vaccinated residents can enjoy being in outdoor spaces without a mask in non-public settings. After June 15, the choice will be simple: get vaccinated, or wear a mask until you do. Fortunately, with over 700 sites administering doses across the County at a wide variety of locations, getting vaccinated has never been easier. I encourage any residents who may still be on the fence to take this opportunity to get vaccinated as soon as possible, so we can enjoy our new normal on June 15 as safely as possible.
