LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair, Hilda L. Solis, Supervisor to the First District, and Angel City FC, LA’s professional women’s soccer team set to debut in Spring 2022, today hosted a day of play, featuring soccer clinics and arts and crafts for the unaccompanied children at the Pomona Fairplex Emergency Intake Site.

“Since the launch of the Pomona Fairplex Emergency Intake Site my goal has been to ensure the children receive the highest quality of care, which includes access to recreational opportunities that enhance their health and well-being,” shared Chair Solis. “I am thrilled to partner with Angel City FC today in a way that continues to empower the children by creating fun, safe spaces and engaging them in unique experiences that makes them feel like anything is possible.”

The soccer clinics were hosted at the Pomona Fairplex for the unaccompanied children under care at the facility. The clinics were split up into two sessions across ten soccer fields, leaving ample space for the children to play. In addition, the event included an arts and crafts area where the children drew Angel City FC flags and learned more about the club and its role in the city. The event featured participation from ACFC community team members Megan Fish, Catherine Dávila, Nicole Moreno, Monica Corea,Isabel Ayala, Lázaro Morales, and more than 20 players and coaches.

This event comes on the heels of the first anniversary of the National Women’s Soccer League announcing that a professional women’s soccer team would officially be coming to Los Angeles.

“I can think of no better way to celebrate Angel City’s first birthday than by partnering with Chair Solis to host these clinics to bring the game of soccer to the children residing at Pomona Fairplex,” said Julie Uhrman, Co-Founder and President of Angel City FC. “Our ability to make an impact on the community is what drives our club, and we are grateful to Chair Solis for giving us the opportunity to co-host this event.”

In addition to this day of play, Chair Solis has partnered with several organizations and individuals to bring fun experiences to the site including a performance by a local folklorico group and a live musical concert courtesy of Danny Trejo. Team Hope, the group overseeing operations of the Pomona Fairplex Emergency Intake Site has successfully reunified 2,267 children to date.
