Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda L. Solis, Supervisor to the First District, released the following statement after the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved her motion to implement the General Relief (GR) Guaranteed Income (GI) Demonstration Project:
“This groundbreaking program will be the first to be ever administered by Los Angeles County and will have the potential to transform the lives of 150 young adults ─ many who are homeless and experience other challenges,” shared Chair Solis. A key aspect of this GI program will be to ensure that those who participate are not adversely impacted by the income limitations required under the General Relief program. It is, therefore, prudent to waive these limitations for those participating to ensure they are not detrimentally impacted as well as to fully gauge the efficacy of the program itself. This motion does just that.”
On July 27, 2021, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the creation of this new Guaranteed Income (GI) demonstration program for transition age youth receiving GR. GR is a temporary cash assistance program for residents who do not qualify for federal or state funded cash programs.
The motion approved today waives all GR eligibility requirements, and other related requirements to establish, maintain, and continue GR benefits for transitional-aged youth aged 18 to 24, who legally reside in Los Angeles County, while participating in the County’s GI Demonstration Program, except as prohibited by state or federal law.
