Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda L. Solis, Supervisor to the First District, released the following statement on President Biden’s comprehensive national strategy to combat the COVID-19 pandemic:
“Today, President Biden announced a comprehensive approach to increase vaccinations, provide further protections for the vaccinated, safely keep our schools open, increase testing, improve care for those with COVID-19, and continue to progress our economy. I want to commend the President for continuing to demonstrate strong leadership in the face of an unprecedented pandemic and want to emphasize that we at the County are ready to play our part to get this terrible virus under control and put this pandemic behind us once and for all.
Under my direction, the County has already moved forward with a vaccine requirement for our workforce, and I am glad to see the President do the same for federal employees and contractors, employees in healthcare settings, and for businesses with 100 or more employees. And as a former Secretary of Labor, I am proud to see the President use the Department of Labor’s authority to provide paid leave for employees to get vaccinated, especially given that we have implemented a similar practice for employees in unincorporated areas of the County due to a motion I introduced.
Going forward, I remain committed to working with the President to implement the necessary steps to end this pandemic. Equity will continue to be the guiding principle for my response to this pandemic, and I was heartened to hear the President say that it will be at the center of his Administration’s response as well.”
