Supervisor Hilda L. Solis is pleased to announce that the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, in coordination with the Los Angeles Unified School District, will hold free blood lead level testing events for residents near the former Exide battery plant.
Supervisor Solis said, “The exposure to dangerously high levels of lead could be detrimental to the brain, kidneys, liver and other vital organs. I urge all residents to take advantage of the free blood lead level testing. Additionally, I will continue to call for immediate clean up action for properties, including schools, affected by the contamination.”
The events will take place starting next week. For more information about the events and free blood lead testing, contact the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health hotline at 844-888-2290 or visit http://www.bloodleadtesting.com/.

“My office has been in regular contact with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) to encourage them to move with the utmost urgency, especially where vulnerable children are at risk. Thanks to the governor and the legislature, money is now available. I am encouraging all agencies involved to deploy these resources for cleanup of high risk areas right away. I urge DTSC to stay in contact with our school district leader so that our students, parents and teachers are informed and safe.”
