What: Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda L. Solis will speak at press conference in Sacramento on Tuesday, Jan. 26, before she is called to testify at the state Assembly’s Toxics Committee hearing. She will speak on Exide’s closure plan, the residential cleanup efforts and the need to budget additional funding for the residential cleanup.

Background: Exide operated a battery recycling plant in Los Angeles County until 2015. The factory operated for 33 years under a temporary state permit. Since then, health and environmental experts have conducted soil sampling tests in and around the homes close to the factory and have found widespread lead contamination. Exide operated within the First District. Board Chair Solis, who represents the First District, will speak on Exide’s ongoing efforts to clean up homes most affected by this contamination.
