Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis released the following statement, following today’s inauguration of Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador:

I congratulate Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on his historic swearing-in. President López Obrador has said he wants to strategically strengthen economic and cultural ties with the United States, and I am eager to partner with his Administration to improve our relationship with one of our largest trading partners and one of our most significant neighbors south of the border.

Los Angeles County and Mexico share a rich history that has only grown more robust over the decades of friendship and collaboration. Though we are strategic economic partners, we are also neighbors and family. LA County is home to more than 3.7 million residents who are of Mexican descent, and every day these hard-working men and women make tremendous contributions to our local economy. As the proud daughter of a Mexican father, and as a former U.S. Secretary of Labor, I look forward to working with President López Obrador’s Administration on projects and initiatives that mutually benefit both Los Angeles County and Mexico.”
