Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis on Sept. 21 joined the nonprofit Baby2Baby to distribute backpacks, school supplies, diapers, baby wipes, teddy bears, and ice cream to students at Shirpser Elementary School, an El Monte campus where all children come from households that are under the federal poverty line. The event was sponsored by the Build-A-Bear Foundation.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has upended the lives of hardworking families throughout the San Gabriel Valley, and in particular those at Shirpser Elementary School in El Monte. Many parents cannot find diapers or baby formula at their neighborhood grocery store due to limited stock, and I am doing all I can to support these families,” said Supervisor Solis. “I am proud to partner with Baby2Baby to make sure parents gain access to essential items that will keep their children healthy and safe.”

At Supervisor Solis’ direction, Los Angeles County recently awarded Baby2Baby a $1 million grant, the single largest donation Baby2Baby has ever received. In addition, Supervisor Solis earlier this year provided Baby2Baby with a $10,000 grant from her discretionary funding.

“We were so thankful that Supervisor Solis stopped by our distribution at Shirpser Elementary in El Monte yesterday to help us distribute backpacks, school supplies, hygiene items and so much more to families in need in her home district,” shared Baby2Baby Co-Presidents Norah Weinstein and Kelly Sawyer Patricof. “Her ongoing support of our COVID-19 relief efforts means so much to our team, and we look forward to continuing to make an impact together in the future.”

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Baby2Baby has partnered with Supervisor Solis to provide 562,402 diapers, 649,647 wipes, and 215 cans of formula at various food distributions throughout the Supervisorial First District. Since March, Baby2Baby has distributed over 35 million essential items to some of the most vulnerable children across the country.
