Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, in collaboration with Cedars-Sinai, Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA), First 5 LA, and other community organizations, on May 8 hosted a special food distribution at Walnut Park Elementary School in Walnut Park. This drive-thru food pantry began at 9 a.m. and was expected to end at 11 a.m., or until supplies lasted.

“More families are experiencing food insecurity as a result of this pandemic, and I am working with Cedars-Sinai, SEE-LA, and First 5 LA to make sure we do all we can to promote the health and well-being of our neighbors,” said Supervisor Solis. “I want people to know that whoever you are, wherever you are, if you need food, we are here for you. Through this partnership, we will help families put food on the table.”

With funding from Cedars-Sinai and First 5 LA, approximately 1,000 families were expected to receive boxes filled with farm-fresh produce.

“Cedars-Sinai is proud to continue our support for SEE-LA, in partnership with the Office of Supervisor Solis, to honor mothers and community members at this special event. This cross-sector collaboration allows us to optimize support for our neighbors in need,” said

Erin Jackson-Ward, Associate Director of Community Benefit for Cedars-Sinai.

Organizers anticipated hundreds of cars at today’s food pantry. Supervisor Solis was on hand to help distribute boxes of produce to families impacted by the COVID-19 economic crisis and was accompanied by several community volunteers, including individuals from Cedars-Sinai and SEE-LA, among others.

“As the largest mission-driven operator of farmers’ markets in the region, SEE-LA is proud to participate in this project enhancing South Angelenos’ access to fresh, nutritious food. This effort also supports families and regional farmers whose livelihoods have been impacted by COVID-19.  We are grateful to Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, and Cedars-Sinai for making this possible,” said SEE-LA’s Director of Farmers’ Market Operations Elizabeth Bowman.
