LOS ANGELES, CA– Today, the Board of Supervisors approved two actions led by Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis in direct investments in projects and services supporting the East Los Angeles community: $500,000 in repairs and enhancements to Salazar Park and $10.4 million for El Sol Shuttle Services.
“As this year comes to an end, I am working hard to invest in our local communities to ensure that every resident gets their fair share of County services and funding,” said Supervisor Solis. “By improving the facilities at Salazar Park, we are improving safety at this heavily-used park and providing our children with the highest quality amenities that they deserve. And by delivering affordable public transit for our East LA community, more residents can go to work and school, thereby increasing opportunities for success for themselves and their families. I am excited to bring these projects and services to East LA.”
The Board of Supervisors approved $500,000 of Supervisor Solis’ Prop A discretionary funds to improve facilities at Ruben F. Salazar Park. This project will include replacing the sports fields with durable, drought-tolerant sod; replacing parts of the irrigation system that are leak-prone; repairing security fencing; and restoring surfacing and striping of the outdoor tennis and basketball courts. This project also has a goal of 30% of craft worker hours to be completed by local residents. Today’s approval of $500,000 follows another $500,000, also from Supervisor Solis’ discretionary funds, that were approved in November 2016 for this project. The project is now fully funded by today’s allocation; construction is estimated to take four months and is anticipated to begin in February 2019.
The Board also approved a one-year contract, with three one-year renewal options, to Southland Transit, Inc. for operations of the El Sol Shuttle Service in East LA. The contract is worth $10.4 million. El Sol Shuttle Service, which costs $0.25 per ride – or free for seniors, those with disabilities, and children – provides affordable and reliable transportation service throughout the entire unincorporated East LA community.
