Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis released the following statement after the Board of Supervisors passed her motion to send a five-signature letter to Governor Gavin Newsom urging him to prohibit the sale of all vaping products in California, and to support State legislative efforts to prohibit the sale of flavored tobacco, nicotine, and vaping products in California, until U.S. public health officials determine the safety of these products and the cause of recent vaping-related injuries and deaths:
“As the number of vaping-related deaths and hospitalizations climb, and as more states have taken steps to protect youth from the harmful effects of vaping products, we need to support our state leaders and ask them to step in to protect the public.
Thank you, Gov. Newsom, for allocating $20 million for a vaping awareness campaign, and for directing State agencies to develop recommendations that limit the sale of vaping products to anyone under the age of 21.
On the heels of the Board of Supervisors unanimously prohibiting the sale of flavored tobacco products in unincorporated LA County last week, I am steadfast in my resolve to support all efforts and options to protect the health and well-being of the general public.”
