Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis released the following statement in response to today’s Stay at Home order:

“We can all do our part in flattening the curve by practicing social distancing and maintaining at least six feet of distance with others. Without a vaccine, social distancing is our most effective tool in slowing the spread of the coronavirus. This is a critical moment, and we all must ramp up our preventive measures to protect residents, including our most vulnerable, from contracting this virus. Today, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a statewide ‘Stay at Home’ order, just moments after our Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued a similar order. Today’s Stay at Home order, which will take effect at midnight tonight in all 88 cities and unincorporated areas throughout LA County, is a crucial step in flattening the curve and preventing a wider spread of COVID-19.

“Here are the essential services that will stay open:

  • Grocery stores, delivery/takeout from restaurants, food banks, farmers markets
  • Pharmacies
  • Gas stations
  • Convenience stores
  • Banks
  • Laundromats/laundry services
  • All essential government services will continue

“Here are examples of non-essential services that will be closed:

  • Bars and nightclubs
  • Entertainment venues (movie theaters, etc.)
  • Gyms
  • Public and private events
  • Convention centers

“For a complete list of essential services, please visit www.covid19.ca.gov

“This order will be in effect until further notice.

“I want to assure our constituents that we did not reach this decision lightly. We understand the tremendous impact this order has on everyone. However, our communities’ lives depend on this necessary action. It is in the best interest of our collective health. Again, I urge everyone to follow this order and keep practicing social distancing. This does not mean social isolation. Community support is essential at this moment. Call a friend or family member to check on them; continue supporting one another. Together, we will get through this challenge.

“For the latest updates on the coronavirus, tune into the daily briefings of the LA County Department of Health on its Facebook page.”
