Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis released the following statement after the Metro Board of Directors approved her friendly amendment to Director Garcetti’s motion, which instructs Metro staff to return in 30 days with recommendations on lowering fares for all Metro transit services:

“Today, I made a friendly amendment to Director Garcetti’s motion to make Metro more affordable for our residents. My amendment asks Metro staff to return within 30 with recommendations on how to lower fares for Metro transit services throughout the County, which includes bus and light rail services. This complements Director Garcetti’s motion, which among other things, lowers the prices of 1-day, 7-day, and 30-day passes by 50 percent. As we continue to re-open our economy in the upcoming months, it is essential that our transit riders can affordably access jobs, education, and recreation. Many of these riders have endured lost wages, or jobs, and they need relief. Reducing transportation costs is one of the most effective ways this Board can help struggling households whose livelihoods now hang in the balance. Metro will ramp up its efforts to help support our communities.”
