LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis today issued the following statement after President Joseph R. Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law.

“Once again, President Biden has displayed remarkable leadership in passing landmark legislation to address the climate crisis and expand cleaner and renewable energies, while bringing down healthcare costs for our most vulnerable residents. We know that low-income communities and communities of color are the ones suffering the most severe impacts from a changing climate. Here in Los Angeles County, Angelenos have had to endure living with harmful sources of pollution — from highways to oil and gas extraction and contaminant-causing industries. Unfortunately, this has led many to develop many health complications. To that end, I deeply appreciate the bill’s investment toward environmental justice so that all families have the right to clean air, safe drinking water, and affordable energy sources.

I am also deeply moved by the efforts to ensure that this bill included lowering Americans’ health care and prescription drug costs, including expanding Medicare benefits and extending the Affordable Care Act program.

This bill could not come at a more critical moment and I’m grateful to the Members of Congress who continue to lead our country with compassion and dignity as we get out of this pandemic.”
