Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis released the following statement after the Board of Supervisors approved her motion to direct the County Chief Executive Officer and County Departments to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment of the East LA Civic Center campus:
“The East Los Angeles Civic Center is the heart of East LA, the home of a weekly Farmer’s Market, the host of dozens of cultural activities and events every year, and it even has a lake where East LA residents can fish and enjoy the outdoors. The Civic Center, which houses my East LA Field Office and multiple County Departments, is within walking distance of many mixed-use housing projects, and it is connected to the greater LA County region by Metro and other forms of public transit.
While the East LA Civic Center campus continues to provide tremendous benefits to the surrounding community, there are many improvements that would make the campus safer, more inclusive, and provide greater accessibility.
My motion today will begin the process to build the future of the East LA Civic Center, which will be shaped by the community who will provide input on the proposed improvements. These enhancements are for our East LA community, to ensure that the East LA Civic Center meets its full potential as the gathering place for the community, now and into the future.”
