PROJECTS

San Gabriel Valley Aquatic Center

The San Gabriel Valley Aquatic Center, championed by Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, is a transformative initiative to bring much-needed recreational facilities to the San Gabriel Valley.

Situated on the site of the former Temple Academy in West Puente Valley, the center will include an Olympic-sized pool, a practice pool, and other amenities like classrooms, changing rooms, and a public park. It will offer a range of water activities, from swimming lessons to youth sports, at little or no cost, providing a safe and accessible space for residents year-round. This facility will serve as a crucial resource for the unincorporated communities of Avocado Heights, Bassett, and Rowland Heights, offering a much-needed hub for aquatic recreation.

San Gabriel Valley Aquatic Center Project! Coming Soon Summer 2025!

Background

The San Gabriel Valley Aquatic Center, proposed by Supervisor Hilda L. Solis in December 2019, represents a transformative effort to provide essential aquatic facilities to the unincorporated communities in the San Gabriel Valley The new aquatic center is especially significant to Supervisor Solis, who is from the Puente Valley and went to the elementary school where this new center will be located. Having grown up in this community, Solis understands firsthand the critical need for recreational amenities, especially in the summer months when residents often struggle to find places to swim and cool off.

The aquatic center will feature an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a practice pool, classrooms, offices, changing rooms, and a public park connected to Allen J. Martin Park. It will also include sustainable landscaping and ample parking. For the communities of Avocado Heights, Bassett, Charter Oak, Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, Valinda, and West Puente Valley, this facility will provide much-needed relief, offering a safe and accessible space to swim and engage in various water-based activities.

Supervisor Solis has been a passionate advocate for this project, ensuring that the community—many of whom have limited access to aquatic facilities—has an opportunity to enjoy year-round access to water recreation. The center will become a hub of activity, providing opportunities for swimming lessons, water exercise, lap swimming, and youth sports such as water polo and swim teams. These programs will be offered at little to no cost, allowing all members of the community to participate, especially during the hot summer months.

The aquatic center will be located at 14804 Temple Avenue in West Puente Valley, on the land of the former Temple Academy, which closed in 2020. The property is being leased to the County
