Solis Issues Statement on Kennedy Center Board Changes
Los Angeles, CA – Following recent announcements about changes to the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees, Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and Supervisor Hilda L. Solis issued the following statement:
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to President Joe Biden for the privilege of serving on the Kennedy Center Board. It has been an incredible honor to contribute to such a vital institution and work alongside dedicated leaders in advancing the arts. I have long admired President John F. Kennedy for his vision and commitment to a more just and compassionate society, and it has been a profound experience to serve on the Board that bears his name. As the first woman to receive the Profile in Courage Award in 2000 for my work on environmental justice issues, I’ve worked to carry forward the values that he championed, striving to create more inclusive and equitable spaces for all. It has also been an honor to be recognized by the Kennedy family over the years, further deepening my connection to the legacy of President Kennedy and his unwavering dedication to public service. Through my role on the Board, I’ve had the opportunity to uplift initiatives that I’m deeply passionate about here in Los Angeles County, bringing these efforts to the national stage. I worked to elevate the importance of Los Angeles County’s Cultural Equity and Inclusion Initiative, ensuring that arts and culture remain accessible and reflective of our diverse communities, both locally and across the country. I’ve also worked to highlight the vital role of arts education and the preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games, ensuring that the cultural richness of Los Angeles County, and the broader U.S., is showcased on the world stage. While my time on the Board has come to a close, I remain deeply committed to advancing these causes and continuing to champion the arts as a tool for equity, healing, and positive change, both locally and nationally.”
