Solis Appoints Ambassador Cynthia Tellis to the County Board of Governors for the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County
Los Angeles, CA – Today, Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and Supervisor Hilda L. Solis appointed Ambassador Cynthia Ann Telles to the Los Angeles County Board of Governors for the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC). In this role, Ambassador Telles will provide strategic leadership and guidance to enhance the Museum’s commitment to cultural enrichment, scientific education, and community engagement across Los Angeles County.
Ambassador Telles brings a remarkable and diverse background in public service, diplomacy, and academia. Most recently, she served as the United States Ambassador to Costa Rica, where she played a critical role in strengthening diplomatic ties between the U.S. and Costa Rica, focusing on critical issues including bilateral trade, security, economic development, cybersecurity, and environmental protection. Prior to her ambassadorship, Ambassador Telles held leadership positions as a commissioner on both Los Angeles County and City commissions, contributing to initiatives that addressed health disparities, economic mobility, and access to public resources in underserved communities. As a clinical professor at UCLA, Ambassador Telles has dedicated her career to improving access to high-quality healthcare and mental health services, particularly for underserved Latino and Black communities. Her groundbreaking work in mental health care policy has had a lasting impact on addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, and she has been a staunch advocate for the integration of health services into community-based programs.
Ambassador Telles is also known for her leadership in the field of public health and her role in advancing civic engagement strategies that connect health equity to social justice. Throughout her career, she has emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, academia, and local communities in creating lasting, meaningful change.
