LOS ANGELES, Calif. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a motion by Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis to donate two County cargo vans to A New Way of Life and Water Drop, two nonprofit organizations providing critical services to the County’s most underserved residents.

The motion authorizes the Internal Services Department (ISD) to transfer ownership of the vehicles, previously used by the County, to the community-based organizations under the County’s Surplus Equipment Program. The program allows retired County equipment to be repurposed by eligible nonprofits that support the public.

“A New Way of Life and Water Drop are not just service providers, they are trusted partners in advancing justice, healing, and equity in our communities,” said Chair Pro Tem Solis. “By donating these vehicles, the County is providing essential tools that will allow them to continue meeting people with dignity, compassion, and critical support. This is how we build stronger, more resilient communities.”

Founded in 1998, A New Way of Life is a nationally recognized reentry program that supports formerly incarcerated women through housing, legal services, case management, and family reunification. Water Drop, launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, addresses water insecurity by distributing clean water and basic supplies weekly to unhoused residents, particularly in Skid Row.

With Board approval secured, ISD will now execute donation agreements with both organizations and facilitate the transfer of vehicle titles.
